Description

A delicious and easy recipe for Greek-Style Meatballs served with a refreshing Tzatziki Sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and excess water squeezed out
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef or lamb, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, onion, garlic, egg, oregano, salt, black pepper, cumin, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until just combined.
  3. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and browned.
  5. While the meatballs are baking, prepare the tzatziki sauce. In a medium bowl, mix together Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  6. Once the meatballs are done, serve them warm with a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider adding some chopped mint to the meatball mixture.
  • Serve the meatballs with warm pita bread for a complete meal.
  • For a lighter option, you can substitute ground turkey for the beef or lamb.
