Description

Italian Sushi Rolls are a unique twist on traditional sushi, combining classic Italian ingredients for a flavorful experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 cup sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup roasted red peppers, sliced
  • 1/2 cup salami, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice, being careful not to mash the grains. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
  3. Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat or a clean surface. With wet hands, spread about 1/2 cup of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
  4. Layer fresh basil leaves, mozzarella cheese, roasted red peppers, and salami in the center of the rice-covered nori.
  5. Starting from the bottom, carefully roll the sushi away from you, using the mat to help shape it tightly. Seal the edge of the nori with a little water.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining nori sheets and fillings.
  7. Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 6-8 pieces. Drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the salami with avocado or cucumber.
  • Add a sprinkle of Italian seasoning to the rice for an extra flavor boost.
