Description
Russian Tea Balls are delightful, buttery cookies rolled in powdered sugar, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar, plus extra for dusting
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup finely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour and chopped nuts to the butter mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden. The tops should remain pale.
- Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. While still warm, roll each cookie in powdered sugar to coat.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack, then roll them in powdered sugar again before serving.
Notes
- For a chocolate twist, add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the flour mixture for a chocolatey flavor.
- Substitute almond extract for vanilla for a different flavor profile.
