Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar for filling
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts optional, such as walnuts or pecans

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
  6. Flatten each ball into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and chopped nuts (if using). Sprinkle a generous amount of the filling onto the center of each circle.
  8. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to enclose it, pinching to seal tightly.
  9. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the filled dough seam-side down in the skillet.
  10. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Remove from the skillet and let cool slightly before serving.
