  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg or flax egg for vegan substitute

  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract use sparingly
  • 1 can cherry pie filling or fresh pitted cherries
  • 1/2 cup salted butter can use unsalted with pinch of salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8” baking dish, lining the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well blended. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and cherry pie filling until smooth.
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt the cubed salted butter until frothy, then cook for 5-8 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Mix the browned butter with granulated and brown sugar until creamy.
  6. Stir the cherry mixture into the sugar and butter blend until fully integrated.
  7. Fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until a thick batter forms.
  8. Gently fold in the white chocolate chips and slivered almonds to the batter.
  9. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Optionally, add more chocolate and almonds on top.
  10. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Cool in the pan for about 20 minutes before lifting out and slicing.
