Ingredients
  

For the Bread
  • 1 cup buttermilk or milk mixed with 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice
  • 2 tsps instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar or honey/agave as alternatives
  • 2 eggs at room temperature
  • 4 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour for a softer loaf
  • 1 tsp salt
For the Flavor Filling
  • 4 cloves garlic fresh chopped
  • 4 tbsp salted butter softened and reserved for brushing
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese or Pecorino Romano as a substitute
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese sharp cheddar preferred
  • 1 tbsp fresh herbs (Basil, Thyme, Oregano) or dried herbs at a reduced amount
  • 1 tsp garlic powder optional for extra garlic flavor

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. In a stand mixer, combine buttermilk, instant yeast, granulated sugar, eggs, bread flour, and salt using a dough hook. Mix on medium speed for 4-5 minutes until well incorporated.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of softened salted butter and mix for an additional 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for about 1-2 hours until doubled.
Filling and Assembly
  1. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and fresh herbs.
  2. Once the dough has risen, punch it down, roll it out into a rectangle, and spread the filling evenly across.
  3. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the filling, roll the dough into a log, and twist it before placing on a baking sheet.
  4. Cover and let rise again for about 45 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top with melted garlic butter and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  2. After baking, let it cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before slicing.
