Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water, 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Stir gently and let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in 1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add 4 cups of all-purpose flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm area for approximately 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Punch the risen dough down, divide it into 12 pieces, and roll each into a 24-inch rope. Shape into pretzels.
  7. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and 1/2 cup of baking soda to a gentle boil. Immerse each pretzel for about 30 seconds.
